SPRING CONCERT SERIES 2009

For the past several years, BBVA has been organizing a Spring Concert Series in Madrid in conjunction with the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía. Intended for the bank’s customers and shareholders, the series aims to make classical music available to the broader public. The Bank further promotes classical music by sponsoring the BBVA Viola Chair, created to ensure well-rounded education for talented young people who strive for excellence.

Over the course of five weeks in spring 2009, from April 23 to May 28, the Patio de Columnas (Courtyard of Columns) of the Palace of the Marqués de Salamanca has been the site of five chamber music concerts, with various instruments: piano, flute, violin, cello, and viola, bringing a varied repertoire of great European musicians to the public.

Duos, trios, and quartets from the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofia interpreted works by masters such as Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Shumann, alongside classics such as Brahms, Rachmaninov, and Prokofiev, as well as more contemporary composers such as Shostakovich, Ledoux, Turina, and Jindrich Feld. The soloists held to an extremely high standard, and their masterful playing conveyed the power of the universal language of music, which stimulates the intellect and never fails to move and inspire the audience.
