BBVA Contemporaries is an innovative programme whose goal is to discover talent and monitor the development of recognised contemporary artists while bringing society closer to present-day creation. This new programme is part of the group’s strategic vision. It plans to publicise the liveliest works of the present moment, which are characterised by the use of increasingly diverse media. The advisory panel consists of Carmen Giménez, curator of 20th century art at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Rosa María Malet, director of the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona and Miguel Zugaza, director of the Prado Museum. BBVA Contemporaries will consist of a series of exhibitions very two years, which will present different views of the contemporary scene. BBVA will invite different people to present their perception of current Spanish art. The exhibition of BBVA Contempraries 2005 is called Hasta pulverizarse los ojos. The current organiser is Enrique Juncosa, director of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin. He is completely free to choose the artists and to create his own panorama of contemporary creation. The exhibition opens in BBVA’s Madrid gallery (Marqués de Salamanca Palace) on 22nd September and will later move to Bilbao (Plaza de San Nicolás 4) where it will open on 11th November. |
