The study was conducted by an independent entity among some 163,000 respondents —more than 7,100 within Spain— to understand the main reasons why someone would look to pursue a career at a given company rather than another.

The bank has published an in-house guide to raise awareness among employees of the value of generational diversity. The goal is to confront any lingering prejudices about people’s age. "At BBVA, we have up to four different generations under one roof. We want to drive home the point that everyone here, regardless of age, is highly capable and brings value and talent to the bank," said Heather Spratt, who leads the BBVA employee group concerned with safeguarding generational diversity at the bank.

After announcing that the bank will have 35 percent women in management positions in 2024, BBVA has launched the high performance program ‘I am female talent’, which is geared toward the bank’s female employees with the greatest potential for growth. The bank has also presented a new remuneration policy for executive directors, which includes a diversity indicator as part of the variable incentives.

The BBVA Foundation presented the Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Social Sciences to Mark Granovetter, “the most eminent economic sociologist in the world,” for revealing the power of “loose social ties” among individuals for people's economic and social performance.

The bank is one of the first large companies in Spain to indefinitely commit to remote working. The bank's employees will be able to take advantage of this measure whenever possible depending on the nature of their job position, and will be able to work remotely up to 40 percent of their time. They will benefit from a high degree of independence to organize themselves even on the same day and can distribute this percentage on a quarterly basis. The bank will allow them to do so from two different addresses within the national territory. The bank will sign new contracts with its employees in Spain to adapt them to the Spanish Law on Remote Working. BBVA is thus taking action ahead of the announcement of the end of the state of health emergency to implement a permanent working model based on flexibility, work-life balance and trust in employees.

Between 2016 and 2022, BBVA will reach a milestone of supporting almost half a million young people gain access to the job market, primarily though its worldwide entrepreneur programs. The bank, together with 20 other large global companies at the World Economic Forum in Davos, launched Global Alliance for YOUth, an initiative representing a collective effort to provide young people with the knowledge and skills they need for the jobs that society calls for. To this end, the project aims to help six million young people improve their skills so they can take part in the new working environments.
