Astrid, Adelaida and Arancha are three very different women. They live thousands of miles apart. In different countries, different continents. Their work is also completely unrelated: livestock breeding in Colombia, a store in Panama and mobile app development in Spain. However, there is one thing that these three women have in common: all of them, at one point in their lives, decided to start their own businesses to support their families or make an idea come true. The three also think that, in their case, being a woman worked more to their advantage than against it. We brought them together so that they could share their story with us.

Jessica is 28 and lives in Soacha, a modest town in the outskirts of Bogota. She travelled to New York to tell her story to the UN and there she met another fearless girl in the shape of Kristen Visbal’s sculpture, which since March 8 has been locking horns with the bull on Wall Street.

BBVA today launched its new BBVA for Everyone app, available for both iOS and Android operating systems, which enables the blind and those with physical or mild mental disabilities to use the bank’s network of over 6,300 automatic teller machines (ATMs). This new tool will guide those with visual disabilities to the ATM of their choice and help them withdraw cash. BBVA is a pioneer in this type of mobile solutions, which complement the services already available for people with disabilities on the web and corporate apps.

BBVA has been selected to join the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index 2018, which recognizes companies’ achievements in gender equality policies, both regarding their employees and in support of social initiatives, along with their offering of products and services that prioritize this commitment. Garanti Bank, part of the BBVA Group, has also been included in the index.

Sustainable Development is essential to achieving more peaceful and just societies and the United Nations counts on the private sector to help in this effort. The BBVA Microfinance Foundation (BBVAMF) has contributed its experience in the finance sector to the report entitled “Business and SDG 16: contributing to peaceful, just and inclusive societies,” drawn up by the Sustainable Development Goals Fund and the University of Pennsylvania.
