BBVA has various scouting mechanisms, and to do this it takes into account factors such as the degree of maturity, whether the solution dovetails with the bank’s needs, and the entrepreneurial team’s passion.

Over the past year, BBVA Open Innovation, the area of the bank that works to connect with the FinTech ecosystem, has generated 310 interactions between entrepreneurs and business areas. Thanks to these contact points, BBVA successfully carried out 16 pilot tests with startups in 2019 alone, one third of which are now in the marketing phase. In addition, a further 38 collaborative initiatives are in the process of being defined and implemented.

Last week, BBVA officially opened its latest Open Space, in Bogotá. Located in the heart of the Colombian capital, it is the third such space opened by the bank. The site, which led a previous life as a BBVA Innovation Center, has been under construction for the past year in preparation for its relaunch as Open Space Bogotá. He made his comments at Open Summit, where he presented the grand prize for this year’s international Open Talent competition to the winning startup, Cobee. The BBVA CEO also referred to the Group’s challenges, saying, “Our goal is to monetize the technological advances we’ve made from our investment in digital transformation.”
Today BBVA celebrates its fourth annual Open Summit, the event dedicated to innovation and, as explained by BBVA’s Global Head of Client Solutions David Puente, “demonstrates our commitment to the fintech ecosystem.” Sustainability will be a featured topic throughout the day, and the Open Talent final winner will be announced.
