This month’s BBVA Compass Volunteer Summit in Houston brought together the bank’s top volunteers – employees who step up beyond their regular jobs to help lead the bank’s community efforts.

 

The 150 people at the summit have jobs all across the bank at all different levels and in all different departments. The one thing they have in common is that whenever they’re done with their 9-5, they keep going. They volunteer hours and hours and hours of their time in the service of their communities.

We pulled aside a few at the summit to ask them what motivates them. Their stories are a powerful illustration of the heart behind the bank’s drive to bring the age of opportunity to everyone. Click below to listen.

Chapter 1

An overview of the bank's community activities at a gathering of the BBVA Compass employees who're charged with making big, bright things happen. BBVA Compass Director of Corporate Responsibility & Reputation Reymundo Ocañas' story is one marked by a remarkable rise and a remarkable heart. Rita Garza, Ocañas' right-hand person at BBVA Compass, speaks openly and movingly about her "why" and the reasons she's so driven to succeed.

Chapter 2

Conversations with four BBVA Compass volunteers: West Region Executive Jeff Talpas, who has a conversation with himself every day before the doors open that's a monument to the bank's mission to bring the age of opportunity to everyone; Operations Systems Admin for Engineering Kevin Cunningham talks about his conversation with a homeless man who still had much hope in his heart; Community Relations Executive for Texas Yoly Davila has outrun the odds by a long shot at every turn, and you get the feeling she's not quite done surprising and surpassing; and Community Relations Specialist Daniel Morales is a quiet presence, but his drive to do good in his community speaks volumes.

Chapter 3

BBVA Compass Chairman Manolo Sánchez on his deeply personal understanding of how the power of opportunity can change the course of a child's life, and why he's made it his mission to prove that access to the arts can improve outcomes for underprivileged children.
