Looking for stories that move, of personal triumph, that share values such as team work, effort and commitment are is leitmotif behind BBVA’s social and sports sponsorships.

In all countries in which it operates, the Group collaborates with both established and rising figures in different of disciplines.

Besides the local sponsorships in each country where BBVA does business, the Group partners with global brand ambassadors which convey the values and represent everything for which the company stands. These are Carlos Soria, Garbiñe Muguruza, Kevin Durant and James Harden.

Outside the sport sponsorship, these ambassadors are joined by other global initiatives, including the partnership with el Celler de Can Roca, the best restaurant in the world according to Restaurant magazine, which is allowing the masterminds behind it to explore new geographies and new cuisines and take the Girona-based restaurant’s groundbreaking and daring proposal to other parts of the world.

Ruta BBVA is BBVA’s most emblematic institutional sponsorship. Every year since 1993, the program invites 200 young participants from different countries to relive the adventures of the great discoverers that shaped Latin America’s history. Declared of “Universal Interest” by Unesco, Ruta BBVA blends social entrepreneurship and education to instill a spirit of cooperation with and commitment to other cultures among its young participants

Urgent Spanish Foundation. For many, this name may not ring a bell, but Fundéu BBVA, the foundation’s we page, is one of the most popular resources for those who want to find about the correct use of a certain word or expression in Spanish. In collaboration with Agencia EFE, and with advisory support from the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language, BBVA started sponsoring the institution in 2005, which works to promote the correct use of Spanish in the media.

Argentina

In Argentina, BBVA’ sponsors the two arch-rivals of Argentinean soccer: Boca Juniors and River Plate. According to The Observer, a match between the two teams par excellence of Argentina’s soccer is one of the “50 sports things you must do before you die”.This sponsorship proves that rivals can share the same teamwork and sportsmanship values that have turned these two clubs, into the biggest in the country.

Chile

BBVA Chile’s official ambassador is Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo. This 32 year old Chilean national is also the captain of the country’s national soccer team. Considered one of the best keepers in Chile’s history, he has built a successful career on humbleness, effort and sacrifice, some of the values that BBVA wanted to promote through its brand ambassadors.

 

Colombia

“Total peace”. This is how diver Sofía Gómez describes how it feels to dive deep in the ocean.  BBVA Colombia sponsors this young athlete, who takes her body to the limit to take on challenges that defy the boundaries of human endurance. Her pictures deep underwater are breathtaking, almost as much as the more than five minutes that Sofía can go without breathing.

If there is a sport in which athletes showcase uncanny physical and mental strength, that’s triathlon. BBVA Colombia sponsors some of the sport’s rising starts: Eduardo Londoño, Sergio Nicolás Guevara and Esteban Rubio. Eduardo, the undisputed champion in his category in Colombia, Sergio Nicolás and Esteban, are perfect examples of discipline and passion for what they do.

Soccer is king in sports sponsorships and fuels passion across the world, much like BBVA Colombia’s ambassadors, Óscar Córdoba and Radamel Falcao. Córdoba, former goalkeeper of Colombia’s national team is the ambassador of the Corporate Responsibility program, collaborating with BBVA in the dissemination of social programs and sponsorships among the youngest. Now a Premier League player, Radamel Falcao, is BBVA Colombia’s image because of the humbleness, respect and teamwork values he embodies. Falcao stars in several advertising campaigns and events for BBVA Colombia.

USA

The bank of basketball. In 2010, BBVA became the official bank of the most important basketball league in the world, the NBA. This sponsorship includes the women’s league (WNBA) and the NBA Development League, both in the US and Spain.

BBVA also sponsors the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers, the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and LA Sparks, and the D-League’s Texas Legends.

Despite the indisputable popularity of basketball in the US, the soccer fanbase is growing quickly. This is why BBVA also sponsors the Houston Dynamo (Soccer USA), whose stadium is called the “BBVA Compass Stadium” and the Dinamo Dash, in women’s soccer.

Mexico

BBVA Bancomer is the sponsor of one of the most popular and watched sports in Mexico, soccer. In 2013 the league changed its name to Liga Bancomer MX. In 2015 the bank started sponsoring the second league, which changed its name to Ascenso MX.

BBVA Bancomer has been sponsoring Mexico’s first division team Rayados de Monterrey since 2015, the same year in which both institutions signed a deal to change name of the team’s new field to “BBVA Bancomer Stadium”, one of the largest and more modern in Latin America, with capacity for 51 thousand fans.

Peru

Music and gastronomy come together in Peru through BBVA Continental’s sponsorships. Peruvian cuisine has risen to world fame thanks to chef Gastón Acurio, who helps raise awareness about the country’s rich culinary heritage wherever he goes. As image of BBVA Continental, Gastón Acurio takes part in different campaigns and initiatives of the bank aimed at enriching the country’s culinary culture.

Beyond gastro-territory, BBVA Continental ventures into the world of music from the hand of singer-songwriter Pedro Suárez – Vertiz, exploring new possibilities such as #RadioBBVA.

Venezuela

Everybody knows about Venezuela’s baseball passion and heritage. Many of the US’ ‘Major League Baseball’ players are hail from Venezuela. When he debuted on April 23rd, 1939, Alejandro Patón Carrasquel, became the first Venezuelan to play in the US League, kicking the doors open for the many that would follow his footsteps. Leveraging this sporting passion and in order to bring value to its customers, BBVA Provincial is the official bank of the ‘Major League’ in the country.

Also, to promote the values linked to sports such as effort and the drive to excel, BBVA Provincial sponsors Venezuela’s national soccer team, also dubbed La Vinotinto, due to its distinctive wine-red jersey uniform.
