International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8th. For this reason, in this video and under the hashtag #BBVASomosTodas, different women working at BBVA talk about women’s role in society. Their testimony is proof of just how much women have accomplished, but should also make us reflect on the issues that still need to be addressed in order to come up with possible solutions. They all agree that women still have a long way to go, and will face both opportunities and challenges along the way.
“We are extremely valuable. And with ambition, passion and a lot of hard work everything is possible.” This is just one of the inspiring testimonies from one of the women who work at BBVA. In the video, they express their hope that in the future, on March 8th “what we celebrate is our success instead of calling for recognition.” To make this a reality, they feel we need “equal opportunities, regardless of gender” and “education, as women are not free to decide what kind of life they want to lead without it”, among other things.
Therefore, this day should inspire the fight for equality among men and women – something that has not always existed. However, there are more and more initiatives, projects, laws and awareness-raising plans that seek to ensure equal rights, especially at the workplace.
As one of the largest multinational companies in Spain, BBVA is a strong advocate for women’s rights. In fact, BBVA was once again part of Bloomberg’s Gender Diversity Index for its pioneering commitment to transparency regarding gender information. Just one more sign of the Group’s commitment to diversity and equality, which is also reflected in “La Vela” – the main building at the bank’s headquarters in Ciudad BBVA (Madrid). Today it is purple in commemoration of Women’s Day.
