BBVA honored by The Banker as ‘The Best Bank in Latin America’

The Banker, a magazine of the Financial Times Group, has once again recognized the BBVA Group as ‘The Best Bank in Latin America.’ On this occasion, the British publication, which presented the bank with the same award in 2023, emphasized its leadership in innovation and pioneering approach to sustainability. At a ceremony in London with over 300 bankers and business leaders participating, The Banker recognized BBVA for its key role in the financial development of Latin America – a task made possible thanks to its customer-oriented strategy and robust value proposition based on digitization and sustainable, inclusive development in the communities where it operates.

Silvia Pavoni, Editor-in-Chief of The Banker, emphasized that “BBVA reported solid growth in Latin America, with lending rising across its operations and rising net attributable profit in the region.” The awards committee for the British publication noted “BBVA’s work around climate and social projects, launching initiatives such as Argentina’s sustainable financing program and Peru’s gender social bond.”

For Jorge Sáenz-Azcúnaga, Global Head of Country Monitoring at BBVA: “This award is a recognition of BBVA’s commitment to Latin America, a strategic hub for the bank and a region where we are long-term investors. This region is an endless source of talent, energy and growth. Backed by the strength of a global group like BBVA, we will continue to strengthen our franchises, driving innovation, sustainability and financial inclusion to offer more opportunities to the individuals, entrepreneurs, SMEs and businesses contributing to the development of their communities.”

Reinforced leadership across Argentina and Peru

At the ceremony in the British capital, BBVA was also recognized for its franchises in Argentina and Peru, which received the top awards in their respective countries. These accolades reflect the success of the local strategy and BBVA’s ability to adapt to the particularities of each market.

The Banker noted that BBVA’s franchise in Argentina “delivered solid results during a year marked by extensive economic reforms, combining stable financial performance with continued improvements in digital products and services.” The Banker’s award committee also took into account BBVA’s “use of automation and data analytics, its low levels of non-performing loans and the climate and social projects supported by its sustainable finance program,” explained Pavoni of The Banker.

Following the announcement of the award, Jorge Bledel, Country Manager of BBVA in Argentina, said: “Receiving the award from The Banker for the Best Bank in Argentina confirms that we are on the right path: leading through innovation, digitization and approachability. This recognition motivates us to continue building a more human and sustainable bank, serving the country’s progress.”

The Banker’s editor-in-chief also cited BBVA’s prominent role “in Peru’s local sustainable finance market, which is currently experiencing heavy growth and where the bank launched an internationally certified green facility worth $150 million to finance sustainable housing projects.”

Fernando Eguiluz, Country Manager of BBVA in Peru, stressed the contributions of the entire team: “We greatly appreciate this recognition, which reaffirms our commitment to providing excellent service with a radical client perspective, helping them achieve their goals with an innovative approach that focuses on key aspects such as digitization and sustainability. This award from The Banker also reflects the outstanding work of BBVA in Peru’s more than 7,500 employees.”

The BBVA Group rounds off a year with several major accolades granted in recognition of its endeavors in more than 25 countries worldwide, including awards for World’s Best Technology Bank from The Banker, World’s Best Corporate Bank 2025 from Global Finance, and Best Digital Bank in Latin America from Euromoney.
