BBVA partners with Mastercard and Sabre Direct Pay to transform travel agency payments in Mexico
BBVA, in a further show of its commitment to offering innovative payment solutions, has launched a new virtual card product in Mexico alongside Mastercard (NYSE: MA) and Sabre Direct Pay, Sabre Corporation’s (NASDAQ: SABR) virtual payment solution. This innovative offering in Mexico enables travel agencies to issue secure virtual card numbers (VCNs) for each payment. This improves control, integrates with backend reconciliation tools, and significantly reduces manual work and errors.

The partnership illustrates the shared commitment of the three companies to building a more digital and efficient payments ecosystem for the travel sector. There are plans to expand the solution beyond Mexico to South America and Europe.
Unlike traditional payment methods, which often involve manual reconciliation, delayed settlements or paper-based error risk, this solution brings near-instant settlement, richer transaction data and better alignment with accounting systems.
One of the solution’s key strengths is its advanced payment controls, including the dynamic creation of unique VCNs for each transaction. This provides travel agencies with greater transparency and control through a seamless integration between BBVA, Mastercard, and Sabre Direct Pay.
Mastercard’s virtual card technology enables BBVA to issue dynamic VCNs for each transaction, providing travel agencies with greater control, transparency, and security. These single-use VCNs integrate with Sabre Direct Pay’s platform to help automate reconciliation and reduce manual processing
According to David Arias, Global Head of Value Proposition for BBVA’s Corporate and Institutional Banking division: “Corporate Banking is one of BBVA’s six strategic priorities, and this partnership with Mastercard and Sabre Direct Pay will allow us to launch an innovative product that is key to radically enhancing our clients’ digital experience in critical areas such as treasury management.”
“Together with BBVA and Sabre, we’re delivering a smarter, more secure way for travel agencies to manage supplier payments. VCNs offer enhanced control, transparency, and protection – all of which are critical in today’s fast-moving travel landscape. This partnership is a great example of how Mastercard is working across the ecosystem to unlock new value for travel companies in Mexico and beyond.” said Chiara Quaia Head of B2B Travel at Mastercard.
Patricio Boccardo, Managing Director of Sabre Direct Pay, pointed out on the alliance: “The fact that BBVA has chosen Sabre Direct Pay demonstrates the strength of our payment platform in delivering secure and flexible solutions to the travel industry. By centralizing multiple payment options, streamlining reconciliation, and providing access to real-time reporting and analytics, we help travel agencies manage cash flow more efficiently and improve financial control.”
From large corporations and institutions to SMEs, BBVA supports all its business clients at every stage of their growth, offering solutions that are accessible and tailored to their needs and circumstances, along with a global perspective (international presence), and expert advice.
