Five figures to explain the UN Principles for Responsible Banking
The Principles for Responsible Banking were announced in Paris on November 26. BBVA is one of the founding banks involved in this initiative, which forms a part of the United Nations Environmental Programme.
The Principles for Responsible Banking set the course for banks to align their strategies with society's goals. These principles provide a framework for a sustainable banking system that acts in a responsible way, in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ans the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. We explain the principles in five figures.
6 Principles
- Alignment: adapting the business strategy to comply with the SDGs, the Paris Agreement and other framework agreements.
- Impact: increase positive impacts while reducing negative impacts.
- Clients and customers: create shared prosperity that benefits society.
- Stakeholders: collaborate with the most relevant stakeholders to achieve the goals.
- Governance and target setting: to implement the commitments and attain the objectives.
- Transparency and accountability: for the positive and negative impacts.
