BBVA's new app detects your savings opportunities and rewards you for keeping up the habit

What if saving was easier than it seems? BBVA has revamped its app to help you save consistently in a streamlined and personalized way. Through tools based on artificial intelligence, it proposes realistic goals, guides you step by step and, if you set aside a monthly amount from your paycheck, pension or unemployment benefit, it rewards you with a 6 percent bonus of up to 20 euros per month for three months.

Starting to build savings habits often involves setting small, realistic and sustainable goals, and learning to detect those day-to-day expenses that may be holding back our objectives without us even realizing it. To support you in this process, BBVA has reinforced its new 'app' with features such as a financial 'coach', which, through artificial intelligence, analyzes your situation, proposes different savings alternatives adapted to your way of spending and helps you to monitor the goals you set previously.

The financial coach bot, which becomes available as soon as you access the global position of the app, starts from a clear diagnosis, which shows three key data: your monthly savings capacity, the months of accumulated financial cushion and whether the level of your debts is healthy. Based on this, it suggests actions tailored to your circumstances to help you move toward your goals.

These actions include, for example, suggestions for reducing small expenses: your mid-morning coffee, that extra charge for express shipping that wasn't so urgent, or subscriptions you hardly ever use. The coach is able to detect these types of patterns and suggest realistic ways to cut them out, freeing up savings and improving your financial health. You can also create sections within your account, a kind of “digital piggy bank” that allows you to set automatic rules, such as a monthly transfer of a fixed amount or rounding up purchases. This way, you will be constantly contributing to the goal you have set for yourself automatically.

To reinforce this habit, BBVA has launched an initiative that rewards customers' effort and consistency in saving. From now on, if you decide to set aside a monthly amount from your salary, pension, or unemployment benefits, BBVA will give you a 6 percent bonus on those monthly savings, up to a maximum of €20 per month for three months. There is no minimum amount required and no minimum term. All you need is to have one of these sources of income directly deposited into your account and keep your savings in a personal savings account for 30 days. The bonus is calculated automatically at the end of each month and paid directly into your account. The money you save in these accounts will always be available, with no limits or restrictions. You can access it whenever you need it. And if you can't save as much one month, that's okay. The goal isn't to be perfect, but to maintain a routine that you feel comfortable with and that fits your personal circumstances.

An app designed to help you progress and achieve your goals

This and all other features of BBVA's new app, such as quick access to cards and Bizum, and discreet mode, are now integrated and available to all Android and iOS users.

This update is part of a complete overhaul of the app, which incorporates greater use of artificial intelligence, personalization, and tools designed to help you with your day-to-day finances. All this comes with a revamped visual identity that is more approachable, empathetic, and optimistic, reinforcing BBVA's purpose: to accompany you so you can go further.

As Onur Genç, BBVA's CEO, pointed out during the presentation of this new phase: “2025 marks the beginning of a new strategic cycle for BBVA, in which we are committed to incorporating the customer perspective in everything we do in a more radical way. This new app is a clear example of that.”
