Garanti BBVA Reaches New Milestone in Sustainable Finance

Garanti BBVA surpassed TL 1 trillion in sustainable finance as of January 2026, in line with its new target of TL 3.5 trillion for the 2018-2029 period. This achievement is a reflection of the bank’s long-term commitment to sustainable finance.

Garanti BBVA continues to allocate its resources to initiatives that have a positive social and environmental impact, providing financing to sectors such as renewable energy, women’s entrepreneurship and social infrastructure projects. For the bank, sustainable finance means more than simply providing finance. It takes on an advisory role, supporting clients throughout their transformation journeys – from decarbonization plans to climate risk management.

Garanti BBVA’s approach to sustainable finance is grounded in the highest international standards for transparency and management.  In fact, it was one of the few international financial institutions to receive an ‘A’ rating in all three areas, climate change, water security and forests, of CDP’s 2025 assessment.

Garanti BBVA CEO Mahmut Akten explained that sustainability is more than a goal; it’s the reason the bank does business. The bank is reshaping all processes – from resource allocation to risk management – with a focus on climate and nature, and it continues to build financial infrastructure across a wide range of areas, such as renewable energy to green transformation, inclusive growth and social impact.

The CEO added that surpassing the TL 1 trillion threshold in sustainable finance is a “concrete demonstration of the trust our investors, customers and other stakeholders have placed in us.” He noted that the bank aims to help create a more resilient, sustainable world for future generations, while meeting today’s needs. As part of this commitment, Garanti BBVA “will continue to advance sustainable finance as one of the most important levers of transformation in Türkiye,” he said.
