BBVA Expands U.S. Presence with New Houston Office, Growing Corporate & Investment Banking, Wealth Services, and Reinforcing Support for Mexico Clients
The new office houses an Energy and Cleantech Hub, bringing specialized advisory capabilities to help clients advance their decarbonization strategies. It also serves as a platform to accelerate the growth of Corporate & Investment Banking in the U.S., expand Global Wealth Advisory services, and reinforce support for BBVA Mexico clients through its long-standing Agency in Houston. In addition, BBVA is proud to participate as a sponsor of both Houston Energy & Climate Week and Houston Energy & Climate Startup Week taking place from September 14-19.

BBVA has taken a bold step in its U.S. growth journey with the opening of a new, state-of-the-art office at 1980 Post Oak Blvd. in Houston. The new office hosts today nearly 90 professionals and brings together multiple business lines under a single location, reinforcing the bank’s presence in one of the most dynamic markets in the United States.
Houston, known as the energy transition capital of the world, is home to nearly 5,000 energy firms and is a key location for BBVA’s Sustainability and Low-Carbon Advisory Team. In Houston, BBVA is also developing a Center of Expertise focused on new clean technologies, building on Texas leadership in renewable energy and breakthrough cleantech initiatives. BBVA brings to Houston the expertise to advise and finance energy projects, throughout the full lifecycle—from early-stage structuring to accessing capital and tax credit monetization, helping define a clear path to bankability for novel technologies.
This new Houston location will work alongside the cleantech innovation finance teams working in New York, London and Madrid.“Sustainability is one of the key engines of BBVA’s strategy and long-term growth,” said Javier Rodriguez Soler, BBVA’s Global Head of Sustainability and CIB. “From this new office in Houston, we are focused on supporting our clients’ transition journeys through innovative and customized advisory, and we are proud to help finance the shift to a more sustainable global economy.”
Houston is one of the fastest-growing economies in the U.S. and a strategic location for BBVA’s Corporate & Investment Banking expansion. Located in Texas, the 8th largest economy in the world and home to 54 Fortune 500 companies, the city offers a strong platform for growth. With a team of CIB industry-focused bankers in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, construction, retailers and technology, BBVA in Houston serves both U.S. global corporations and U.S. subsidiaries of foreign companies, leveraging its global footprint.
Texas leads U.S. exports, and Houston is the #1 metro exporter in the country—underscoring its importance as a gateway for international trade. With Mexico as America’s top trading partner and BBVA as the leading bank in Mexico, the bank’s Houston Agency has supported cross-border business for over 20 years. This capability has now been reinforced with a dedicated team focused on helping U.S. companies expand into Mexico and seize the growing momentum around nearshoring and integrated North American supply chains.
The city is also a growing destination for Mexican High Net Worth Individuals, making it a natural expansion point for BBVA Global Wealth Advisors, which now offers investment advisory services in Houston for U.S. and non-U.S. clients, primarily from BBVA Mexico (in March, 2024, BBVA announced the opening of its investment advisory office in Miami to serve high net worth Latin American clients).
“Houston brings together a unique combination of economic strength, energy leadership, and international connectivity,” said Alvaro Aguilar, Head of Strategic Projects USA. “Our expanded presence here positions BBVA to serve clients with a powerful mix of Sustainability, Corporate and Investment Banking, Global Wealth Management, and cross-border capabilities.”
