BBVA shines in Global Finance’s Best Banks Awards 2016 ceremony

This weekend, Global Finance held in Washington the 17th edition of its Best Banks Awards, which recognized BBVA as one of the leaders of the financial world. The 8 awards in total that the bank took speak loud and clear about the bank’s standing as retail and investment bank.

On Saturday, October 8, Global Finance celebrated in Washington, coinciding with the meetings of the IMF, the ceremony to hand out the awards to the best retail banks and best investment banks announced early in the year.

Eva Piera, Director of Institutional Relations at BBVA, and Jorge Yataco, Head of Project Finance Peru, picked up the awards recognizing BBVA’s efforts and work on behalf of the institution.

Best retail bank awards

In the Best Banks category, BBVA was recognized as the best bank in three regions where it has become an undisputed leader: Peru, Venezuela and Spain. BBVA was also named best bank in Latin America, an endorsement that bears witness to the group’s commitment to the region and the good job that BBVA's teams are doing and which have allowed its franchises to become industry leaders.

This is the second consecutive year in which BBVA is singled out as the best bank in Latin America, thanks to its dynamic growth, solidity, customer service and positioning in digital banking, a segment it which it stands tall as the region’s leader.

BBVA Continental’s award comes as no surprise. This is the thirteenth consecutive occasion in which the bank is named the best bank in Peru, consolidating a leadership that is based on a solid profitability position, asset growth and innovative products.

For BBVA Provincial this was the tenth time in a row that it was hailed as the best in Venezuela. Global Finance based its decision on the quality of its services and customer care focus, highlighting its commitment to innovation, with products and services that both cover the needs of its clients and help drive the development of digital banking in the country.

In Spain, BBVA managed to successfully complete Catalunya Banc’s integration, strengthening its leadership in the country and supporting its profitable growth goal. The bank also made significant progress in its digital transformation push, whose ultimate goal is to offer the best experience to its customers.

At the end of June, BBVA had 16.4 million digital customers (+21%), and 10.2 million mobile customers (+45%). Digital sales have seen double-digit growth in Spain, Mexico, Turkey and South America.

Best investment bank awards

In the Best Investment Banks category, BBVA earned four awards: best infrastructure bank; best investment bank in Spain; best investment bank in Mexico, and finally, best infrastructure operation of the year, for its involvement in AENA’s flotation.

In Spain, the work performed by BBVA's investment banking branch in 2015 did not go unnoticed. The institution led the classification as M&A advisor by number of operations, providing advising services in more geographies than any other Spanish bank, across nine different sectors, from energy through infrastructures.

BBVA Bancomer has been distinguished as Mexico’s top M&A bank since 2012. It is also the country’s leader in syndicated loans and has reaffirmed its position in Debt Capital Markets, taking part in 54 of the 92 bond issues in the local market.

Best Treasury & Cash Management Providers Awards 2016

Also, on September 28 in Geneva, coinciding with the celebration of the transaction banking forum SIBOS, the publication held its Foreign Exchange, Securities Services and Cash Management award ceremony, where BBVA was recognized on 9 occasions.

Alexis Thompson, Head of Global Securities Services, Fernando García Rojo, Head of Sales Global Securities Services, Rosa María Rodríguez Luengas, Head of International Financial Institutions México and José Luis Morante, Sales Global Securities Services represented BBVA during the event.

In the category of Foreign Exchange, BBVA was singled out as the Best FX Provider in Spain, Argentina and Mexico. In the Treasury & Cash Management category, BBVA was named Best Overall Bank for Cash Management in Latin America, Best Bank for Treasury & Cash Management in Spain and Mexico and Best US Regional Middle Market Treasury & Cash Management Provider – Southwest, in this case BBVA Compass.

In the Securities Services category, BBVA picked up the awards that recognize it as the Best Subcustodian in Spain and Mexico.
