The Internet and new technologies have introduced disruptive changes into the tourist industry. The Internet has established itself as an indispensable resource, especially during the initial stages of a journey, and the majority of Spaniards use it when planning their trips since it is flexible and provides access to multiple options within an enormous market. According to the ‘Fourth Online Comparative Intelligent Savings Study’, which is conducted by the online comparison firm Rastreator.com, 69% of Spaniards do all their travel management online, and 66.3% always make online reservations in order to better personalise the service they receive and select what best meets their needs.

At this point in 2017, BBVA Spain has already make the same number of sales via digital channels that it did in all of 2016. One of nearly every four sales in made by BBVA in Spain in 2017 has been made via a digital channel, i.e. 700,000 transactions, the same number made in the entire year of 2016 (17.1%).

The market for sunscreen products has grown by 1 million consumer homes since 2014. Spaniards’ concern for the effect of the sun on the skin has led to a greater use of protective lotions, above all those with high protection factors.

Former motorcyle racing champion Ángel Nieto, 70, died Thursday on the island of Ibiza after a suffering a cranial trauma in a traffic accident on Wednesday, July 26.  The motorcycle racing world mourns the loss of a rider who was champion 13 times – or as he would put it, given his suspicious nature, 12 times plus one. A pioneer in Spain in the sport, Nieto retired from the racing circuit at age 39 after winning seven championships in the 125 cc category and six in the 50 cc division.

According to a study by Eurobarometer, 26% of Europeans currently smoke, the same percentage as smoked in 2014, although tobacco consumption among youth aged 15 to 24 years is up 5%, to 29%.
