BBVA obtains authorization to launch its securities firm in Japan and expand access to its global offering for institutional investors
BBVA will expand its capabilities in Asia after BBVA Japan Securities Limited completed the relevant local regulatory registrations. This new subsidiary serves a strategic purpose: to act as a direct channel connecting Japanese institutional investors with BBVA's global financial solutions, operating strictly as a local sales and middle office platform for the distribution of BBVA's international products.
The company obtained its registration from the Japan Financial Services Agency (JFSA) and Kanto Local Finance Bureau (KLFB) on August 31 to conduct Type I Financial Instruments Business and, on September 30, joined the Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA). As a result, BBVA Japan Securities Limited will represent a step forward in the international distribution capacity of BBVA Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB). The business model of BBVA Japan Securities Limited is built on a highly specialized approach: serving as the gateway for Japanese capital to access BBVA's global platform by connecting Japanese institutional investors with BBVA’s structured credit products and investment solutions from markets where BBVA has a strong presence, including Mexico, the United States, and Spain.
Japan holds a strategic position for BBVA CIB due to the depth and sophistication of its financial markets, the international weight of its large corporations, and its growing relevance in global investment and capital flows. Precisely because of this context, the new platform will provide a clear and tangible benefit for Japanese institutional clients.

Traditionally, accessing the Group's international products required contacting BBVA teams outside of Japan. With BBVA Japan Securities Limited, Japanese institutional investors will have an expert, regulated point of contact based entirely within their own market. This will allow them to seamlessly diversify their portfolios, eliminating operational frictions and benefiting from direct, on-the-ground support without having to step outside their standard financial ecosystem.
“This authorization enables the creation of a high-value-added bridge between Japanese capital and our global product platform,” explains Yuko Kamiya, President and Representative Director of BBVA Japan Securities Limited. “Our fundamental goal is to streamline operations for our institutional clients: we want them to access top-tier investment solutions in the Americas and Europe with the agility, trust, and proximity that only a local presence can provide.”
With this step, BBVA consolidates its commitment to the Asian region and refines its business model, prioritizing service excellence for a client profile that increasingly demands diversification and access to high-performing global products.
