Applying for banking products, no branch needed

Imagine a world where applying for a bank product is made possible by simply downloading the bank’s own mobile app, without having to go into a branch first - or ever.

At BBVA Compass, that’s not mere fiction. It’s reality with the bank’s so-called green button, a functionality that lets users apply for a checking, savings, money market or CD by simply pressing the button. Users no longer need to already have a bank account to access the mobile app. Instead, they can apply for an account by simply downloading the app - customer or not.

“Traditionally, in order to access a bank’s mobile app at all, customers had to already have a bank account, which many times meant going to a physical branch to open one and then enrolling in the app,” said BBVA Compass Head of Online and Mobile Banking Alex Carriles. “With our green button, now all it takes is a download, a tap and users can apply for various financial products immediately.”

To apply for an account, users simply download the BBVA Compass Mobile Banking App, then tap “Apply Now.” The are then automatically taken to BBVACompass.com where they can apply for various financial products completely online in a responsive design format optimized for their mobile device, without ever stepping into a branch. Once approved for the account, the user can begin using the full functionality of the bank’s mobile app within minutes.

Carriles said the bank’s green button allows BBVA Compass to grow organically both inside and outside its footprint and meet those customers desiring a more digital experience where they are.

To highlight the green button and other features, BBVA Compass recently launched a series of new commercials airing locally and on social media. Actress Sarah Pribis, host of mobile app HQ Trivia, is the spokesperson for the commercials, which use words that include ‘app’ to describe its multifaceted capabilities.
