Global Finance has named BBVA Best Bank for Embedded Finance in the second round of the World’s Best Digital Banks 2025 – Corporate Winners awards. The award recognizes BBVA’s leadership in developing integrated financial solutions that deliver simple, immediate, and relevant banking services directly within the environments where individuals and businesses need them.

Global Finance magazine has just announced the winners of its 'World’s Best SME Banks' awards. In this year’s edition, BBVA has received a double accolade: ‘Best SME Bank in Spain’ and ‘Best SME Bank in Western Europe.’ These awards showcase its business support model, its growth within this segment, and its ability to boost productivity, digitalization, and sustainability among small and medium-sized enterprises.

Enterprises are one of the six major priorities in BBVA’s 2025 - 2029 strategic cycle.  The bank supports all companies in every stage of their development, offering accessible solutions, tailored to their needs and reality, a global vision (presence in 25 countries) and expert advice. From January to August 2025, BBVA reached €3.1 billion in agrifood business, a 69 percent increase over the same period in 2024. Of this amount, €2.09 billion corresponded to sustainable business, with 82 percent YoY growth. BBVA announced these figures at Fruit Attraction, one of the world’s top fruit and vegetable trade fairs, held this week in Madrid.

Jaime Sáenz de Tejada, Global Head of Commercial & Institutional Client Solutions, stated that “one in four companies in Spain chose BBVA in 2024, a figure that is even more impressive in Catalonia, where one in three companies chose BBVA.”

Davos will be held in Switzerland from January 20th - 24th with the theme ‘Collaboration for the Intelligent Age’. The event organized by the World Economic Forum will bring together governments, international organizations and around 1,000 companies, as well as civil society leaders, young agents of change, social entrepreneurs and the media. Davos 2025 is taking place in a global context marked by geopolitical and economic uncertainties, trade tension, cultural polarization and the climate crisis. However, it is also an opportunity to reflect on the positive impact of technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing and biotechnology, which promise to boost productivity and improve the quality of life worldwide.

Even though sustainable finance has been a fundamental issue in the social agenda for many years now, thanks to the 2015 Paris agreement on climate change, the world became aware of the environmental risks and economic impact resulting from the effects of climate change. However, it is not just society that is increasingly more aware. The financial industry is also contemplating climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as relevant factors to determine their investment strategy.

This could be the start of a friendship, a virtual friendship, because the virtual assistant is a “bot” enabled in BBVA’s app whose express mission is to better control customer finances. “We call it a  'pseudo-bot’ ... initially resembling conversational interfaces,” explains Sergio Ruiz Navarro, who is responsible for the design/UX of this endearing creature whose mission is to understand if customers do a good job (or not) of managing their money.

To trust or not to trust? This is the question that will redefine success in the digital age. Atom Bank, the first mobile bank in the United Kingdom has been called on to analyze the driving factor behind this new challenge, thanks to an agreement that secures their participation in a three-year project with Newcastle University. BBVA owns a 39 percent stake in Atom Bank.
