Garanti BBVA has released a series of nine videos on its YouTube channel, called the ‘Financial Security Guide.’ The series is designed to raise awareness among viewers of potential fraud on digital channels, helping them recognize suspicious requests and take the appropriate steps to protect themselves. Featuring digital content creator Ozan Sihay, the series uses a variety of everyday scenarios to explain common fraud methods, identify warning signs and outline practical precautions in an easy-to-understand way.

As digital channels have become an integral part of everyday life, fraud methods have also become increasingly diverse. The series explains how malicious individuals may direct users to carry out transactions or share information through different scenarios, while drawing attention to warning signs and the steps that can be taken to verify suspicious requests.
Topics covered in the series include obtaining transaction approval by asking users to enter a code over the phone; requesting personal and financial information under the pretense of refunding card fees or insurance premiums; fraud attempts targeting companies’ payroll; phishing attempts using QR codes; fake campaigns and sweepstakes; malware; the misuse of donation and aid appeals; offers to make bank accounts available for others’ use; and receiving mobile verification under the pretext of cancelling a transaction.
The videos emphasize the importance of ending suspicious phone calls, verifying information through the bank’s official channels and not pressing keys based on instructions given over the phone. They also recommend checking the reliability of the source when receiving refund, campaign, sweepstakes or donation requests, and not sharing card details, passwords or SMS verification codes.
The series also describes precautions, such as not scanning QR codes from unknown sources, not clicking on untrusted links and only downloading apps from official app stores. It also underlines the risks of making bank accounts available for others’ use in exchange for the promise of easy earnings or additional income and reminds users not to accept mobile approval requests claiming to be for the cancellation of a transaction without first checking them.
